Applications for the 2016 Bendigo Sustainability Group Sustainability Awards have now opened and community groups, business and individuals are encouraged to nominate before the closing date 5pm Friday February 26, 2016.
The biennial awards are a community event designed to celebrate businesses, organisations, community groups and individuals in our community that are innovating and making changes towards a more sustainable way of life.
Bendigo Sustainability Group President Chris Weir said the awards are a great way to showcase and acknowledge the wide range of sustainability work that is taking place in our community.
“This is the fourth time that Bendigo Sustainability Group has held the awards, and each time they get better and better. It’s a credit to the community to see the work going on from schools to large businesses and it’s great to be able to recognise this work and effort through the awards,” Mr Weir said.
The 2016 award categories are:
- Business and Innovation (small)
- Business and Innovation (large)
- Home and Garden
- Community Award
- Education Early Childhood/Primary
- Education Secondary/Tertiary
The 2016 Bendigo Sustainability Awards will be announced at a presentation ceremony on Friday March 18, 2016 at Bendigo South East College Theatre. The awards presentation will also feature special guest speaker renowned landscaper and garden designer Phillip Johnson who was the first Australian to win “Best in show” at the prestigious Chelsea International flower show in 2013.
Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Rod Fyffe said the City of Greater Bendigo is pleased to sponsor the 2016 Bendigo Sustainability Awards.
“The Awards are a very important way of recognizing the great environmental work being done in our community. I encourage anyone who may have been involved in or know of a special project or initiative to nominate themselves, a family member, their workplace, school or a local organisation for an award. It’s easy and only takes a couple of minutes” Cr Fyffe said.
