Caterpillars Room News – July 2014

This month in the caterpillar too we have welcomed some new families and children to the room. We hope they feel welcomed and settled within the new environment and setting. We take pride it making sure all new families feel comfortable and ready when their care begins, as it can be a tricky transition back to work and leaving their children in care for some families. Our communication between families and staff is very high, with daily communication written in their communication books, face to face conversation and phone calls whenever they need reassurance.

As you may have noticed we have had some staff changes and we welcome our new trainee Akalia to the team. Akalia has taken the time to get to know the children and families and has fitted it very nicely. Akalia is studying her Certificate 3 in Children’s Services and is enjoying being a part of the Caterpillars and Jenny’s Team.

With winter setting in we have enjoyed some warm indoor play as it has been wet or too windy. The children have been exploring this season through some sensory play with snow dough. This dough is the same texture as snow however it is not cold or wet. The staff talks to the children about what happens in winter and how it becomes cold and wet. The children engaged in some artwork and small group activities to further this interest with the staff.

We have enjoyed some special events this month with PJ Day, Hero’s of our Community Week, Children’s Art Work and Bake Sale, Naidoc Week and Red Nose Day. During these days the children have dressed up in colours to help celebrate the special days and raise awareness. The staffs conduct a range of activities to help reinforce what the special event is all about. Beautiful artwork is created by the children to be displayed within the room. The Children’s Art Work and Bake Sale has been a huge success over the past week. The families have all grabbed a goody or two with some special pieces of artwork created by their children and a yummy treat. All proceeds made are being donated to the local CFA to help support their wonderful work.

We have had some of our lovely Caterpillars have birthdays this month. On these special days we do some baking with the children as a group and create a birthday cake to share for afternoon tea, where we sing “Happy Birthday” and invite siblings to come a join in as well.

Lana, Sophie, Maddox, Henry, Lexie, have all enjoyed celebrating their birthday with us.

This month we have Jayson from Uncle Jays Photography coming to take our centre photos. These are of each individual children playing inside and outside, sibling photos and class photos.

These are on Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st July.

If your child/ren does not attend on these days, you can arrange a time to come and get your child photographed in the mornings on these days. Please see the office to arrange a time.

We have had a busy month however it has been a wonderful one. We look forward to what the next month brings. If you have anything you would like to add to the program or donate to the room, please don’t hesitate to speak to the staff.

Thank you for a great month Caterpillars

From Lauren, Jacqui, Melissa and Akalia.
